Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 30 (ANI): After receiving multiple complaints about the appointment of male staff in ‘pink toilets’, Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission and BJP leader Aparna Bisht Yadav on Saturday said that the commission has suggested to the government that instead of male staff, female staff should be appointed in pink toilets in order to make women feel safe.
Bisht hoped that the government would take immediate action on this matter.
These suggestions were forwarded to the government after the commission received multiple complaints during its monthly meeting, the Vice Chairperson said.
Speaking to ANI, Bisht said, “Yesterday, during the Women’s Commission’s monthly meeting, we discussed the complaints that at many places the cleaning staff in the pink toilets are men. Taking cognizance of this complaint, we have suggested to the state government that female cleaning staff should be appointed instead… The state government has started pink toilets in all districts under PM Modi’s Swacchh Bharat and women’s safety initiative… I think the government should accept this suggestion and start working on this…”
“PM Narendra Modi started this campaign to stop women from defecating in the open. Many awareness films have been made on this issue. Bollywood has also taken it up very well… As per the reports and complaints, we suggested that there should be female staff in pink toilets, so that women can feel safe. In many places, the pink toilets were locked. People have lodged complaints about this as well… I think the government will take immediate action on this matter,” she added.
The Vice Chairperson conveyed that people have lodged complaints about the locked pink toilets, and the commission has forwarded all these complaints to the state government. (ANI)
