New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): Delhi Minister Atishi wrote to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday on the issue of severe waterlogging under the Zakhira underpass in Delhi.

In her letter, Atishi wrote “I would like to draw your kind attention towards the serious issue of waterlogging under Zahira underpass in Delhi. I have been informed that the main cause of this waterlogging is due to non-channelization of water coming from the area belonging to Indian Railways as there is no drain culvert to channelize the water to nearby MCD drain/Najafgarh drain.”
Further, the letter read “In the absence of a railway culvert, the water from the surrounding areas along with debris and garbage flows into the underpass. Earlier, in order to overcome this problem, it was decided that an additional drain and culvert will be constructed by the Railways on its land with 50 per cent cost sharing with PWD. In accordance to the agreement, the PWD of Delhi Government deposited its share of Rs 2.70 crore on 18.07.2023. However, the situation remains the same till date as no culvert has been built by the Indian Railways.”
Additionally, she added in the letter “The situation is so grave that when Delhi received moderate rainfall today, up to 2 feet water accumulated at the Zakhira underpass from the railway tracks and nearby areas. Traffic had to be stopped and barricades had to be erected in order to avoid any mishappening.”
“People of Delhi are suffering due to the water logging at Zakhira underpass. I would urge you to immediately find a solution to this problem so that the water from the Indian Railways land does not cause water logging at the Zakhira Underpass,” Atishi added in the letter.
Earlier today, after severe waterlogging witnessed in Delhi due to moderate rains, the Delhi BJP Unit hit out at Delhi Minister Aatishi and the AAP government. (ANI)
