New Delhi [India], November 24 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Sunday launched fresh attacks on the opposition Congress after the party said the Maharashtra election results are ‘unacceptable’.
Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Poonawalla said, “Congress ki ek hi pehchaan, karo loktantra aur janta ka apmaan. The party always questions the public’s conscience. Whenever Congress lost elections, they have blamed the Election Commission and EVMs for that.”
“According to them, in Jharkhand, Jammu Kashmir and Wayanad, it was the victory of democracy. However in Maharashtra, since they lost, the democracy was defeated. Congress party keeps nepotism above democracy. The Congress party is like a burden. If you look at it, the Congress party workers themselves feel the party is a burden,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday, Congress leader Rashid Alvi had expressed his dissatisfaction over the results of the Maharashtra election and termed it as “unacceptable”.
Speaking to ANI, after the results of the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections were declared, Alvi noted that India and democracy had lost.
“The way elections in Maharashtra were held shortly after Haryana, and almost all candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won, this has never happened in India. BJP has won Maharashtra, but India has lost. Democracy has lost. The Constitution has lost,” he said.
“The elections in Maharashtra are unacceptable,” he added.
The ruling Mahayuti alliance won the Maharashtra assembly polls. BJP led the Mahayuti and registered a smashing victory, carrying its allies–Shiv Sena and NCP–with its momentum.
In Maharashtra, BJP won 132 seats, Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, won 57 seats, and the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, won 41 seats.
The state has 288 assembly seats.
The constituents of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a rude jolt with Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray winning 20 seats, Congress 16, and NCP (SCP) led by Sharad Pawar only 10 seats.
The BJP saw a fabulous strike rate with the party winning 133 of the 148 seats it contested in Maharashtra. The party’s allies Shiv Sena and NCP also saw a very good strike rate.
The assembly elections in Maharashtra were held on November 20.
In Jharkhand, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) -led alliance retained power.
The assembly polls were conducted in two phases in Jharkhand. The first phase was held on November 13 and the second phase on November 20. (ANI)
